Resecue and Safety Equipment Used
Many of you may not be aware of the extensive equipment our vessels carry on board:
-
Oxygen Resuscitation Equpipment
 |
All our vessels carry oxygen therapy and resuscitation equipment. R100 carries Oxi-Dive Resuscitation equipment which has a re-breather system which allows for over 4 hours of continuous oxygen therapy. An oxy-viva system was recently purchased so that crew with the necessary training can administer oxygen resuscitation. |
-
First Aid Kits and Stretchers
All our boats carry comprehensive first aid kits as well as other items such as neck braces, blankets and stretchers. R100 carries a floating stretcher. All crew are trained to at least Senior First Aid level.
-
Semi - Automatic Defibrillator
In March 2003 Fremantle Sea Rescue became the first of its kind to become part of the St John Ambulance First Responder Program. This allows our crews to better administer first aid to sudden cardiac arrest victims in the vital moments before an ambulance arrives. The need for such a system has been highlighted by the number of fatalities and diving incidents attended to by Fremantle Sea Rescue in recent years.
Keywords relating to the areas covered by Fremantle Volunteer Sea Rescue are linked with the St John Ambulance Operations Centre computer system. When a triple zero call is received indicating a cardiac arrest or collapse, the St John Communications officer dispatches an ambulance to the appropriate transfer point and alerts the first responder.
-
Fire Pumps / Salvage
All of Fremantle Sea Rescue's vessels carry fire fighting / suction pumps on board. We were the first volunteer sea rescue group to do so.
